Brocks Hill Visitor Centre

Below is information on some environmental features and facilities available at the Visitor Centre building.  Also how to join the guided tours we organise.

  1. Electricity generated by photovoltaic panels and a wind turbine
  2. Warm air heating through the United Kingdom's first ventilated photovoltaic array 
  3. Solar water collectors provide all year hot water 
  4. Rainwater collection and storage for toilet flushing
  5. Sewage treatment through a BioDisc sewage treatment unit
  6. Insulation provided by recycled newsprint, rockwool and polystyrene
  7. Passive solar gain through a south facing inset conservatory
  8. Examples of double, triple and argon filled glazing
  9. Earth bank protection on the north side to increasing thermal mass 
  10. Exploiting natural light by using internal glazing to allow 'daylighting'
