This page gives you information about Peace Memorial Park, Wigston.

Public seating in park surrounded by trees

Established in 1921 by public donation the park is at the historic centre of Wigston. Recently rejuvenated with a Heritage Lottery Fund grant the park now boasts an award-winning pavilion, home of Wigston's bowls clubs the pavilion is also used by other groups.

The park is fortunate to have an active Friends Group, who were instrumental, in partnership with the council, in achieving the lottery grant and continue to be involved in the ongoing management of the park.

Situated just 100m from the busy Wigston Town centre, the park provides open grassed areas and benches allowing people a quiet rest away from the hustle of the shops. It also provides a multi-use court for tennis and football for the energetic and a bowls green for the more genteel but no less competitive. There are is also a sensory garden, flower beds, carpet badge bed all surrounded by mature trees.

In 2008 the park and Brockshill Environment Centre| won a Green Flag award for the second time. This award is given in recognition of the park achieving nationally set standards for its management and up keep.  You can read more about the Green Flag award| by visiting the official website.

The Friends group meet quarterly to report on their monitoring of the park, to plan activities which have included band concerts by the Salvation Army, midsummer fete, quiz nights and coffee mornings. As well as encouraging greater use of the park, the activities also raise funds for the benefit of the park.

Each year the park hosts the British legion service of remembrance at 11am on the 11th November and the Holocaust Memorial Service in January.
