Welcome to the Public Cleansing section. This pages provides information on street cleaning, litter collection and the role of environmental wardens.  The page also highlights the litter line and graffiti freephone number and has links to dog fouling, graffiti, bin emptying, fly tipping, fly posting and bin replacement information.

Research shows that nearly every adult in the population drops litter in varying degrees. People in cars feel immune and unaccountable. The worse an area is the more comfortable people feel about committing environmental crime.

You can help to keep the borough clean by informing us when ever you witness litterred streets which need to be cleaned.

Street Cleaning

Out in the streets are the street cleaning crew who are responsible for keeping the borough clean with their road sweepers, footpath and alley sweepers, litter pickers, mowers, brooms and brushes and lots of skill and hard work.

All streets in the borough are swept at least once every eight weeks. Town centres, areas around schools and other hot spots are swept daily.

Litter in town centres, around schools and other hot spots are picked twice daily. Litter is unsightly and can quickly build up if not removed.

Environmental wardens are a group of volunteers who take responsibility of looking after an area of the borough.  This could be as small as the pavement of the street in front of their house or as large as an open space or a row of shops, or even the roads near a school.
