This page explains the importance of providing your dog with good identification, so it can be returned to you quickly if it strays.
All dogs should wear a collar and identification tag in a public place.
The tag should have the name and telephone number of someone who can collect the dog if it does stray.
However a collar and tag are not permanent, so we recommend that you have electronic identification for your dog. This is called micro-chipping.
Micro-chipping
Micro-chipping involves injecting a small electronic implant or micro-chip just under the skin of your dog. It gives your dog its own reference number which is stored on a national database. If your dog strays, the micro-chip can be read by a scanner, from which your contact details can be very quickly obtained.
We have officers who are trained to carry out this process.
Our charge to micro-chip your dog is £20.00.
