Training Course for Food Handlers

This page explains the legal requirements for food handlers in a food business and introduces the training course run by our environmental health officers.

The law requires the proprietor of any food business to ensure his or her staff understand what they must do to handle food safely so it does not become a risk to human health.

For most food handlers, the Level One Award in Food Safety in Catering| is sufficient.  The training course we deliver is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and is a nationally recognised award.

Our training courses for food handlers last for six hours and usually take place on two evenings, one week apart.  This is to give candidates the opportunity to study course material in between the formal sessions.

The courses are open to anyone and if you are a food handler who requires training, it is expected that the business employing you will pay the cost of your course fee.

If you run or manage a food business and you have at least 6 people to train, we may be able to arrange to deliver the course at your premises. Contact us |if you would like to enquire about this service.
