Private Housing Grants

Summary

Each year we have a programme of housing grants that is designed to help vulnerable households keep warm and safe.

This page explains who is most likely to qualify for a grant.

2008/09 Housing Grants Programme

In 2008/09 you may qualify for a grant for work to your home if your household has a low income, for example if you receive a means tested benefit.

We particuarly want to hear from you if you have a low income and you are aged over 60 or have children under the age of 16.

We have to make sure the work that you wish to apply for is essential to keep your home warm and safe and that it fits with our current policy.

These grants are subject to a means test, so we cannot say you will definitely receive anything until we know a little about your circumstances and the work you would like to carry out.

You may also qualify for help if you are a resident who is registered as disabled and you need some adaptation work to help you get in and out of your house and to use washing and bedroom facilities.  Click here for more information about disabled facilities grants|.

Finally, to help with the Council's initiative to regenerate the town centres, grants are also currently available for conversion of empty space over a shop unit, particularly in South Wigston.  These are commonly called flats over shops grants.
