Warding Arrangements in the Borough

Summary

This page gives information on recent boundary changes and explains why the changes were necessary.

As a result of an electoral review of all Leicestershire districts carried out by the Boundary Committee for England, new warding arrangements were introduced in Oadby and Wigston in time for the Borough Council elections, which were held on Thursday 1 May 2003.

The review was undertaken in order to sort out imbalances that had occurred since the last review in the 1970's. Some wards had seen massive increases in residential development, which produced significant differences in the numbers of electors that Councillors represented in some wards as compared to others.

We retained the same number of councillors, 26, and the same number of wards, 10, as before. However, all ward boundaries have changed and many ward names have also changed.

The new ward boundaries are shown on this image map|. This map is a schematic diagram of the 10 wards in the Borough.

The numbers of Councillors to be elected to each of the Wards is as follows:

Name of ward

Number of Councillors
Oadby St. Peters
Oadby Grange
Oadby Uplands
Oadby Woodlands
Oadby Brocks Hill
Wigston St. Wolstans
Wigston Meadowcourt
Wigston All Saints
Wigston Fields
South Wigston
