However, if you wish us to send application forms to you by post or e-mail, or you wish to obtain further information about specific requirements or conditions of licence, either telephone 0116 257 2732 or e-mail licensing@oadby-wigston.gov.uk|.

 

When you contact us please provide us with the following information:

  • the type of application you wish to make
  • the details of any information you may require about making your application 
  • the name and address of the person to whom any forms are to be sent
  • contact telephone number and email details 

 

Fees

There is a fee applicable for each of the different types of licence under this heading.  

From 1st April 2008, each application listed below will attract a fee of £65.00.  Some of the applcations may also attract vets fees.

Pet Shops

Licenses to keep pet shops are issued under the Pet Animals Act 1951| [External]. Any business offering pets for gain is also subject to licensing conditions.  The licence can stipulate a number of conditions to secure the well-being of the animals.

  

The licence will be issued subject to compliance with licence conditions and payment of the licence fee and is renewable annually. 


Riding Establishments

A riding establishment is one where the business of keeping horses for hire, for riding or riding instruction, is carried on. Licences to keep a riding establishment are issued under the Riding Establishments Acts 1964 and 1970| [External]. 

 

We will arrange for the inspection of horses and premises by a veterinary surgeon, to ensure the welfare of the animals and the suitability of accommodation.

 

The licence will be issued subject to compliance with licence conditions and payment of the licence fee and is renewable annually. 


Animal Boarding Establishments

An animal boarding establishment is one which carries on a business of providing accommodation for other people's animals. This can include private homes.


All premises must satisfy basic standards relating to the health, welfare and safety of the animals boarded.  Licenses to board cats and dogs are issued under the Animal Boarding Establishments Act 1963| [External]

 

Where appropriate, we will arrange for the premises to be inspected by a veterinary surgeon to ensure accommodation is suitable for the welfare of animals. 

 

The licence will be issued subject to compliance with licence conditions and payment of the licence fee and is renewable annually. 


Dog Breeding

A dog breeding establishment is one where five or more litters are born to one or more bitches, for the purpose of sale, in a period of one year.


Such premises are licensed in the interests of animal welfare and consumer protection. Licenses to breed dogs for sale are issued under the Breeding of Dogs Acts 1973| and 1991 [External].

 

Where appropriate, we will arrange for the premises to be inspected by a veterinary surgeon to ensure accommodation is suitable for the welfare of animals.

 

The licence will be issued subject to compliance with licence conditions and payment of the licence fee and is renewable annually. 


Exotic, Dangerous or Wild Animals

Licenses to keep exotic, dangerous or wild animals are issued under the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976| [External]. A list of such animals can be obtained from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs |[External]. 

 

Where appropriate, we will arrange for the premises to be inspected by a veterinary surgeon to ensure accommodation is suitable for the welfare of animals.

 

The licence will be issued subject to compliance with licence conditions and payment of the licence fee and is renewable annually.
