Gambling Act 2005

Functions of the Licensing Authority

Our main function is to issue Premises Licences for casinos, betting offices and race tracks, bingo clubs, adult gaming centres and family entertainment centres. We also issue permits for gaming machines in clubs and pubs, prize gaming, lotteries and unlicensed family entertainment centres.

 

We also have responsibility for monitoring and enforcing the licences and permits we issue to accord with the following three new licensing objectives as specified in the Gambling Act 2005:-

  • Preventing gambling from being a source of crime or disorder, being associated with crime or disorder, or being used to support crime,
  • Ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way,
  • Protecting children and other vulnerable persons from being harmed or expolited by gambling.
