Summary

This page outlines our Corporate Equality and Diversity Strategy  |and our vision in relation to preventing discrimination and promoting equal opportunities for everyone, placing equality for all, at the centre of our services.

Our Corporate Equality and Diversity Strategy is a single equality strategy which covers our equality duties under the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000, the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (amended by the Disability Discrimination Act 2005), and the Equality Act 2006 (Gender Duty). The Strategy has been developed to look at a number of equality strands, including those for which legislation is currently in place, and those strands for which there is emerging legislation, such as religion or belief, sexual orientation and age.

The Strategy reflects our stated priorities and corporate plan and covers a three year period. Named Officers are responsible for the achievement of actions through incorporating these into their individual Service Development Plans which will be reviewed on an annual basis and reported to Committee to ensure we are meeting our stated aims and objectives.

The Strategy has been devised through consultation with Senior Management, Corporate Team, the Equalities Working Group, the Disability Access Group, the Multi Cultural Group and reflects external consultation received via individual services, from the public and various organisational groups. The Strategy sets out our vision to eliminate unlawful discrimination and to promote equal opportunities for all people. There are people who may experience exclusion for reasons relating to their race, ethnicity, disability, age, gender, sexual orientation or religion, this Strategy is intended to address this.
