Oadby and Wigston Borough Council , was created in 1974 following the re-organisation of Local Government when the former urban districts of Oadby and Wigston were amalgamated. The Borough is one of seven District Councils within Leicestershire.
The Borough is made up of 10 Wards represented by 26 Councillors.
Elections of the whole Council are held every 4 years.
Organisational Structure
We have a compact structure with a Chief Executive as Head of Paid Service, leading a Management Team which consists of the Director of Community Services and the Deputy Chief Executive.
The Chief Executive's Directorate is responsible for the following functions:-
Members' Services, Personnel and Training, Public Relations, Town Centre Management, Elections, Development of Policy and Best Value, Legal Services including Electoral Registration, Licensing and Committee Administration.
The Community Services Directorate is responsible for:-
Environmental Health, Community and Cultural Development, Community Safety, Housing (including repairs and maintenance, and provisions for the homeless), Planning Policy, Economic Development and Regeneration, Development Control, Building Control and Brocks Hill Environment Centre.
The Resources Directorate is responsible for:-
All Accountancy / Finance Services for the Council, ICT Services, Council Tax Billing and Registration, Housing Benefits, In-house Audit, Customer Services and Client Services and the In-house Contracts of Refuse and Recycling, Public Cleansing, Grounds Maintenance and Borough Engineering.
Total number of employees is 250 spread mainly across two sites.
