Recruitment Process
For all jobs the Authority requires an application form to be completed. This forms the first step in the recruitment process and the information you provide will decide whether you will be selected for interview.
To be successful you will need to demonstrate how you meet the essential and desirable requirements of the post. A person specification outlining the required experience, knowledge, qualifications and skills is included in the information pack. A job description outlining the duties and responsibilities of the post is also included.

Acknowledging of your Application Form
As an environmentally friendly Council, we do not automatically acknowledge receipt of application forms in writing. If you have supplied us with an email address, we will use this to update you. However, if you would like a written acknowledgement, please enclose a stamped self-addressed envelope with your completed form.
Interview or Assessment Date
There is usually an interview or assessment date on the advertisement. If you cannot attend the given date(s), please let us know, although we cannot guarantee an alternative.
Arrangements for Interview
If you have a disability, please complete the relevant section on the Monitoring of Employment Practices form attached to the application form. We are committed to employing people with disabilities. We can provide a range of practical assistance for interviews such as sign language interpreters, accessible locations, Braille or tape test materials or a support worker present at the interview.
Immigration, Asylum and Nationality
Under the above legislation we have to check that employees are entitled to work in the United Kingdom. In order to comply with this you will be asked to bring documents to the interview, which verify this. Such documents include: passport, a birth certificate or National Insurance Number. If you do have a work permit please supply us with the details and any limitations there may be on it.
References
References will be taken up after interview and will be required before a person can be appointment.
Medical Requirements
All offers of employment are subject to a satisfactory medical check by our occupational health provider. This may include a medical examination and, if the post is designated as a 'risk critical' role will include a drugs test in line with our Alcohol and Drugs Policy.
All information gathered as part of this process will be dealt with in the strictest of confidence.
Criminal Records Bureau
For certain posts, the successful applicant must apply to the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) with any offer of employment subject to receiving a satisfactory disclosure certificate. Prior to interview or after an offer of employment has been made you may be required to undergo a CRB check. The Authority has a policy statement |on the recruitment of ex-offenders.
Data Protection
The information you provide in your application form, Monitoring of Employment Practices form and any subsequent information gathered in respect of your application will be processed in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
The information will be used to assess your suitability for the post and to monitor and review the effectiveness of our Equal Opportunities Policy. The information you provide will be stored securely and in confidence.
Application forms, Monitoring of Employment Practices forms and any other information relating to unsuccessful candidates will be stored securely for one year and will then be disposed of appropriately.

Our terms and conditions |of employment are in accordance with existing national and local collective agreements negotiated and agreed with specified trade union or unions recognised by the Authority for collective bargaining purposes.
