Summary
We have a duty to review conservation areas. This is done in the form of a conservation area appraisal. The appraisal can be helpful when considering future enhancement schemes and design statements for the conservation areas. Appraisals reassess the character of the areas and note any changes which have occurred since its designation such as new development, changes to specific buildings and street scapes.
About Conservation Area Appraisals and Development Control Guidance
The Conservation Area Appraisals and Development Control Guidance intend to identify the special character of an area along with elements that are worthy of retention or enhancement as well as those elements that detract from the character. They will also act as a framework for the control of development and also by those proposing new development so that they may gain a greater understanding of the character of the area, as an integral consideration in the preparation of their proposals.
