Summary
The adopted Oadby and Wigston Local Plan sets out planning policies and proposals for how land within the Borough is used and developed. The Local Plan [external link]| can be viewed using an interactive version where you can view maps and link to relevant policies. Under the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act (2004) Local Plans are being replaced with Local Development Frameworks. The Oadby and Wigston Local Development Framework| is currently being prepared.

What is the Local Plan?
The Oadby and Wigston Local Plan contains policies and guidance on development within the Borough, including the locations for new housing and employment; our designated conservation areas; and areas of ecological and archaeological importance.
Extension of Local Plan Policies
The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 provides for the saving on policies in adopted or approved local plans for a period of three years from the commencement date of the Act. Policies within the Oadby and Wigston Local Plan expired on Thursday, 27 September 2007. We applied to the Secretary of State to save a number of Local Plan policies, as a result, the Secretary of State determined we could save the policies set out in the saved policies schedule.
Extension of Local Plan Policies|
To illustrate these changes we have amended the Local Plan using strikethrough to highlight the policies which are no longer in use. A schedule is also provided at the begining of the document to highlight guidance which should be used in the place of the dropped policies. The Proposals Map has not been amended to reflect the changes and therefore policies which have been removed from the Local Plan will still be shown.
