Methods of paying your Council Tax and Business Rates Bill


Note: Please quote your account reference number with any payment to ensure that it is correctly credited to your account.

 

Payment Options if you have a Bank Account

 

1.

Direct Debit

To avoid having to remember instalment dates, writing and posting a cheque or queuing to pay, why not pay by Direct Debit, the convenient way to pay. This is the only payment method that gives you a choice of payment dates, either 1st or 15th of the month. If you do not already pay by direct debit you can call us on Leicester (0116) 257 2747 and set this up over the phone. Alternatively you can complete and return a Direct Debit instruction to the Council and we will do the rest. All payments are covered by the direct debit guarantee so you remain in control.

 

2.

Cash, cheque or debit card 

Pay by cash, cheque or debit card in person at the Council Offices, Station Road, Wigston. Cashier facilities are open 8:45 a.m. to 14.00p.m. Monday to Friday. Cheques can also be posted in the Council's letterbox at any time. Please include you account reference number on the back.

 

3.

Cheque

Pay by cheque in the post or by leaving it at the Oadby Helping Hands office. Please make cheques payable to Oadby and Wigston Borough Council and include your account reference number on the back.

 

4.

Telephone payments using debit or credit cards

Pay by debit or credit card 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by telephoning Leicester (0116) 257 2850.

 

Note: Credit card payments incur a 2.5 percent service charge.

 

5.

Internet

Pay over the Internet using your debit card, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by accessing our online payment facility. For further details visit our online payment options| page.

 

6.

Electronic banking

If you wish to pay using your own bank's electronic internet payment facilities the Council's bank details are: Nat West Bank, sort code 54-21-50, account number 13754432. Please ensure that you quote the Council's bank details together with your account reference number with all payments.

 

Payment Options if you do not have a Bank Account

 

1.

Cash

Pay by cash in person at the Council Offices, Station Road, Wigston. Cashier facilities are open 8:45 a.m. to 14.00 p.m. Monday to Friday. Postal Orders, but not cash, can also be posted in the Council's letterbox at any time.

 

2.

Postal order

Pay by postal order at the Oadby Helping Hands office, please make payable to Oadby and Wigston Borough Council and include your account reference number on the back. A receipt will then be posted to you from the main Council Offices. We are sorry but we cannot accept cash at the Oadby Helping Hands office.

 

3.

Payment slip at the Post Office

Pay at a Post Office using a Trans Cash payment slip available from the Post Office and quoting Giro Bank account number 00 157 0315. Please make sure that you quote your name, address and account reference number with all payments otherwise your payment may go astray. The Post Office will make a charge for this service and you should allow 10 days for your payment to reach the Council.

 

General Information


Your Council Tax or Business Rates liability is shown on your bill. Instalments must reach the Council by the due dates otherwise action may commence for the recovery of the outstanding amount. This could result in you losing the right to pay by instalments and additional costs being added to your account.

 

Housing and Council Tax Benefit are available for those on a low income. If you qualify for benefit it may reduce the amount of Council Tax that you have to pay and help towards payment of your rent.
