Mayor of Oadby and Wigston, Councillor Jill GoreCouncillor Jill Gore was elected to the position of Mayor on 13 May 2008. She said, "It is a great honour to be selected to hold this position and I look forward to serving the residents of the borough throughout the next twelve months.”

 

Jill will raise funds for her two chosen charities, 'Age Concern Oadby and Wigston' and 'When You Wish Upon a Star|'

 

The Age Concern centre in Paddock Street, Wigston provides:-

  • a pleasant, friendly venue to meet friends
  • a hot, three-course lunch each weekday
  • a coffee bar
  • regular classes including educational and recreational courses
  • advice from the resident Neighbourhood Care Officer
  • hairdressing and chiropody appointments.

 

'When You Wish Upon a Star' makes dreams come true for children with a life-threatening or terminal illness. The charity relies totally on voluntary donations and fund raising to continue creating magical memories for these children and their families.

 

A number of events have already been organized to support the Mayor's Charity Appeal.

If you wish to make a donation to the Mayor's charity appeal please make your cheque payable to Oadby and Wigston Borough Council (Mayor's Charity Appeal ) and forward it to:

All the money raised will be shared between the two charities. There are no administration costs.

Olympic Games Flag

A specially designed London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games flag will be raised during the afternoon of Sunday 24th August in Peace Memorial Park where a free Sports Activity Afternoon will be held.  Places are limited so pre-booking is essential to avoid disappointment.  Booking forms are available from local libraries, leisure facilities and the Council offices.  This event is to celebrate the official handover of the Olympic Flag from Beijing to London.  Only one flag has been allocated to the Borough and it will be raised at various venues until the end of September.
