Active Together Project

This page gives details about the Active Together project in Oadby and Wigston. The Active Together project aims to increase current levels of participation amongst adults in Leicestershire. A variety of activities are being organised to ensure more local people are participating regularly.
Active Together Oadby and Wigston
Despite the proven benefits of physical activity, only a small percentage of people in Oadby and Wigston do the minimum amount of activity required to benefit their health.
The Active Together project, which began in October 2006, is Leicestershire's answer to encourage more residents aged 16 and over to become more physically active.
A range of classes have been organised by our Physical Activity Development Officers. More classes and information about sport and physical activity countywide can be found at www.lrsport.org

Lifestyle, Eating and Exercise Programme
Lifestyle Eating And Exercise Programme (LEAP) is a free NHS (National Health Service) weight management group with healthy eating and fun physical activities, run by a dietitian and a local exercise instructor. Each week there is a healthy eating topic to focus on and some group exercise. There are regular weigh-ins once the 12 week course finishes.
The aim is to lose weight sensibly and gradually then keep it off by learning about eating well and by being a bit more active.
To become a LEAP participant, you must attend a 60 minute assessment appointment with a dietitian. You will be weighed and measured, speak about the foods you eat and you will set some initial goals with the dietitian.
Once you have attended your assessment, you will be admitted to a LEAP course. The sessions run for 11 or 12 weeks in small group sizes. Weekly weighing is optional and is done in a separate room away from the rest of the participants and a different topic will be discussed each week including eating out, alcohol, fats, sugars, label reading, comfort eating and snacking.
Please bring something to drink and clothes suitable for exercise.
To book onto the LEAP course, please contact the NHS dietetics service on Leicester (0116) 272 7223
