Car Parking

Oadby, Wigston and South Wigston are served by a range of car parks owned by the local authority. These are known as off-street car parks. These car parks are patrolled by uniformed Civil Enforcement Officers who enforce the car park regulations.

From 1 April 2024 the following car park charges will be in force:

Town Centre Car Parks Countryside and Leisure Car Parks (Parklands Leisure Centre, Brocks Hill and Wigston Pool)

Short stay

Up to 2 hours - £1.50

Up to 4 hours - £4

Long stay

Over 4 hours - £6

Long stay is available at Aylestone Lane, Paddock Street and Sandhurst Street, Countesthorpe Road, Kirkdale Road and Station Street car parks only.

What are the payment options for pay-as-you-go-parking?

Car park users can pay by cash or card at the parking machines. Alternatively you can also PayByPhone using an online app – please follow the instructions displayed in our car parks.

Will I need to display a ticket?

If you pay by cash or card, yes the machine will give you a ticket. If you PayByPhone your payment will be registered against your numberplate and you do not need to display a ticket. Those that have purchased a permit online also do not need to display a ticket.

If I purchase a pay and display ticket can I use it to transfer between car parks?

No, pay and display tickets are not transferable between car parks

What if I have a blue badge?

Blue Badge holders will be able to display their badge and time clock and can park in any bay in all our car parks for free for up to three hours. If staying longer than three hours then purchase a pay and display ticket for the additional hours and the time will be added to the time clock.

Do I need to pay if I park in an Electric Vehicle Charging bay?

Yes, you will need to purchase either a pay and display ticket or a permit to be parked in an EV bay. As per our car parking regulations, you must also be actively using the charging point to park in an EV space.

How are ‘town centre’ and ‘countryside and leisure’ car parks defined?

A ‘town centre parking permit’ will allow parking in ANY of the following locations:

Oadby:

East Street Car Park, Sandhurst Street Car Park, Ellis Park Car Park.

Wigston:

Junction Road Car Park, Spring Lane Car Park, Frederick Street Car Park, Aylestone Lane Car Park, Paddock Street Car Park.

South Wigston:

Countesthorpe Road Car Park, Station Street, Kirkdale Road.

A ‘Countryside and Leisure parking permit’ will allow parking in ANY of the following locations:

  • Parklands Leisure Centre Car Park
  • Brocks Hill Country Park Car Park
  • Wigston Pool and Gym Car Park.

An ‘All Car Parks’ permit will allow parking in ANY of the above car parks – both town centre and countryside and leisure locations.

Are there any free parking spaces?

There are six bays in each of the following car parks which are free for 30 minutes:

  • Junction Road, Wigston
  • Spring Lane, Wigston
  • East Street
  • Sandhurst Street
  • Countesthorpe Road

The 30 minute bays are lined out in RED and don’t need a permit or pay and display ticket.

Have car park rules and regulations changed?

Other than the introduction of charges, these have largely stayed the same and you can read car park rules here. Alternatively they are clearly displayed on car parking signage.

I am a regular leisure centre user/member – will I still need to pay for parking or have a permit?

Yes.

Is there any discount available for OAPs or benefits recipients?

No – charges are already as low as possible for all users.

Can I use a car park to drop off / pick up my child / family member when they attend a club. Will I need to pay for parking?

Parking charges will apply from 8am until 6pm daily. There is no charge after 6pm. Vehicles parked in a marked bay will be required to purchase and display a pay and display ticket during charging hours or have purchased a permit that allows them to park in the car park. Vehicles passing through a car park will not be required to pay.

Do motorcycles have to pay for parking?

No, motorcycles are exempt from charges and may park in any of our car parks free of charge.

How long can I stay in a car park and can I return to the same car park during the day?
