Council Performance

This page outlines details of the Council's performance against National Indicators and also provides detail on the Council's Best Value Plans.

Introduction

Due to the introduction of a new set of national indicators, there is no longer a statutory requirement for local councils to produce a Best Value Performance Plan (BVPP). This will be replaced with an Annual Plan which will be published shortly. This will set out our priorities and how we expect to perform in the next financial year.

Every year the Government requires local authorities to give details of our performance in the previous year. This should then be compared with authorities nationally and with comparative groups of authorities locally or nationally. The attachments below show the Council's performance from 2007 to 2008 onwards.

The Best Value Performance Plan for 2007 to 2008 contains information on the following:

  1. our vision, our aims and our priorities for 2007 to 2008,
  2. how we deal with responses from the public,
  3. some of our achievements from 2006 to 2007, which includes a good quality of life for all residents, a clean green and safer environment and a successful economy,
  4. results of the use of resources assessment, which is part of the comprehensive performance assessment (CPA) inspection from the Audit Commission,
  5. our proposals for action and improvement for 2007 to 2008, which translates into the effort to achieve three strategic objectives: a good quality of life for all residents; a successful economy; and a clean, green and safer environment,
  6. details on what we intend to spend the money on, plus information about capital and revenue expenditure and
  7. details about the Council's performance against a number of statutory performance indicators and national and local targets.

The national indicator documents show our performance against targets for these and local indicators for the years 2008 to 2009, 2009 to 2010 and 2010 to 2011.
