Renting a Garage

This page contains information about renting a garage, including how to apply, where they are and how much it costs.

The Council has a number of lock-up garages available to rent. These are located in the following areas:

In Wigston, the garage sites are located at Bude Road, Central Avenue, Coronation Avenue, Davenport Road, Dukes Close, Falmouth Drive, Hazelwood Avenue, Holmden Avenue, Manor Street, Orson Drive, Owston Drive, Pullman Road, Rutland Avenue and West Avenue.

In Oadby, there are garage sites located at Cartwright Drive and King Street.

If you are a tenant or a leaseholder of the Council, the weekly charge is £5.90 (increasing to £6.20 from 2 April 2012). The weekly charge for all other applicants is £7.08 (increasing to £7.44 from 2 April 2012). Payments must be made by Direct Debit.

To apply for a garage, you will need to fill in an Application for a Lock-Up Garage (PDF Document, 87.1 Kb). You can also get an application form from our customer service centres or by contacting the Housing Section.

When you have completed your application form, we will place you on a waiting list for your area of choice. Garages are allocated in date order. Priority is given to our tenants and leaseholders. When a vacancy arises we will make an offer to the next qualifying applicant. If you are made an offer of a garage, you will need to sign a garage tenancy agreement.

If you are a tenant with rent arrears or a leaseholder with service charge arrears, your name will not go onto the garage waiting list. You will need to apply when the arrears have been paid.
