Local Development Framework Sustainability Appraisal

Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report

This page explains what a Sustainability Appraisal is and provides links to the Scoping Report.

The Forward Plans Team are currently preparing the Borough of Oadby and Wigston Local Development Framework (LDF), which will set out the 'spatial plan' for the Borough up to 2026. A key part of the Local Development Framework is the production of a Sustainability Appraisal (SA). A Sustainability Appraisal is a process through which the sustainability of a plan (under preparation) is assessed. A Sustainability Appraisal aims to ensure that planning documents are informed by sustainability principles at an early stage in the process. This means that the social, economic and environmental decisions taken in the plans consider the needs of future generations.

Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report

The Scoping Report outlines the Sustainability Appraisal process; it sets out links to relevant plans and programmes; establishes the social, economic and environmental baseline (current position) and; ascertains the sustainability objectives.

The Scoping Report will help to inform future planning documents that the team produce, as part of the Oadby and Wigston Local Development Framework. The current Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report sets out a broad range of sustainability issues that have been identified. Future planning documents are also required to be accompanied by a Sustainability Appraisal that will be more focussed on the issues that these documents will be addressing.
