Volunteering at Fludes Lane Woodland

This section describes how to become involved in managing a woodland through practical conservation tasks. Volunteers who help the Council undertake practical conservation tasks in Fludes Lane Woodland, Oadby provide an important input into the site.

No skills are required - tools and gloves are all provided. We also provide refreshments but you will need to bring along your own lunch.

Fludes Lane Woodland

The Council runs a practical conservation day on the last Sunday of the month. Whilst we do our best to maintain this date, it is always best to ring the Friday before to check and avoid disappointment.

Work can range from hedge and tree planting, hedge-laying, litter picking, clearing scrub and painting fences for example. No experience is required, just a love of being out in the fresh air and knowing that you are making a difference. It is an opportunity to meet people, share similar ideals and get fit or become fitter in the process.

We meet at 10.00 a.m. at Severn Road Flood-basin, Oadby and generally work through until about 3.00 p.m., depending on the work, the number of volunteers who turn up and the weather conditions. Wear old clothes and either steel toe cap boots, Wellington boots or strong shoes. If you are unable to turn up at 10.00 a.m. but would still like to join us during the day at some point, it is best to telephone on the Friday before to check where we will be working in the woodland.

If the last Sunday of the month falls on a Bank Holiday weekend, there are no tasks that weekend but an alternative date is normally arranged. We are considering alternating Sundays with Saturdays as some residents have expressed opinion that they would like to help but are unable to on a Sunday. If you would like to help and would prefer a Saturday or even a mid-week task day then please see the contact details on the left.
