This page provides an overview of the functions of the Human Resources (HR) Section at Oadby and Wigston Borough Council.

Our functions

We provide a strategic and operational advisory and support service to all users both external and internal in order to promote the Council as a good employer, a developer of people, who are receptive to change and who value equality and diversity. We do this through:

  • the development, review and implementation of our People Strategy to underpin the organisational objectives of the Council,
  • fulfilling a strategic corporate role in promoting and raising awareness of equality for all, contributing to main-streaming of equality and diversity throughout all services and supporting the development and promotion of the Council's equal opportunities.
  • providing advice and a responsive consultant service on all aspects of people management, training and development and employment legislation to the Council for example, its elected members, Management Team, Heads of Service and staff,
  • working collaboratively with the Government, external partners and unions to ensure that changes are implemented effectively and
  • the provision of an effective recruitment process.

Training and development

We have held the Investor In People award since 1996 and are committed to the ongoing training and development of all our employees to meet our community's needs.
