Tree pruning for beginners
The day is intended to provide an understanding of how and why fruit trees are pruned and will be led by Nigel Deacon from the Leicestershire Heritage Apples Group.
The course content includes recognition of leaf and fruit buds, reducing the risk of pests and diseases, limiting tree height, correcting the shape of neglected trees and knowing how a tree grows so that it can be pruned to bear fruit reliably. Tools and protective equipment will be provided on the day. However if you wish to bring your own secateurs, loppers or long handled pruners, please do so and we will give them a Health and Safety check before beginning.

Chinese New Year at Brocks Hill
Find out about Chinese New Year traditions and what the Rooster brings. Have a go at various crafts connected with the themes such as make a Chinese lantern or a colourful rooster.
The ancient tradition of the Wishing Tree is synonymous with good luck and fortune, and the legend goes that hanging your hopes for the coming year on a Wishing Tree will encourage your dreams to come true. Trees are hung with red streamers and gold coins. In our tribute to the ancient tradition of the Wishing Tree, write your wish for the coming year on a red paper streamer and hang it from the tree in front of the Centre. Design your own gold coin to hang there also or take away.
No booking required but there will be a small charge for some of the craft activities.
