Credit to the generous people of the Borough

]Mayor's cheque

The former Mayor of Oadby and Wigston, Cllr Robert Eaton presented a bumper cheque at the Council Offices earlier today (Wednesday 28 June) to his chosen charity. A fitting reward for a busy year of charitable events, activities and generous donations.

Leicestershire Children’s Holiday Centre (Mablethorpe) is a charity that Cllr Eaton was very proud to appoint as the offical Mayoral charity for 2016/2017, as Cllr Eaton has personal experience of the great work the charity does providing respite holidays for local underprivilged families.

Shaun O' Donnell, Chairman of the Leiecstershire Children's Holdiday Centre received a cheque for the impressive sum of £9,515.66 from Cllr Eaton. The pair were joined by council staff and key local supporters who had helped organise a wide range of events and activities that took place right across the Borough.

These included: Tesco (who took part in a bake-off with council staff), Wigston Academy, Cuisine of India, Rev. Steve Bailey, the Magna Music Makers, the Royal Society of St George, Oadby & Wigston Lions Club, the Memorial Charity Fund and many, many more.

Upon receiving the cheque and discovering the substantial amount raised, a pleased Shaun O' Donnell said:

"This amount really is a magnificent achievement for such a small geographical area, it will make a big difference, as funds for the charity are much needed. Credit to the generous people of the Borough."

The Mayor of Oadby and Wigston for 2017/2018 is Cllr Samia Haq and her chosen charity is the Leicester Children’s Hospital.
