Play World opens to bumper crowds at Parklands

Families across the Borough and Leicestershire now have access to a new soft play facility and climbing centre following a £1 million redevelopment at Parklands Leisure Centre, Oadby.

The four-tier play facility and climbing centre at the leisure centre officially opened to the public on Monday (12 February).

Nearly 500 people from across the Borough have already visited the new facilities and scaled one of the eighteen different climbing walls, and slid down the multilane wave slide on its first day of opening.

Parklands Leisure Centre, which is managed by Everyone Active in partnership with Oadby and Wigston Borough Council, now boasts a Play World facility that offers an extensive range of activities of all ages. The facilities include, slides, foam ball shooters, fun brick house and trampolines.

In November last year, Everyone Active took over the management of Brocks Hill Centre. As part of the redevelopment project, Everyone Active and Oadby and Wigston Borough Council have extensively refurbished the existing site.

The renewed centre now hosts a large activity area with a wooden sprung floor which offers a fantastic space for a wide variety of activities. Including educational opportunities, conferences, parties and children’s activities. The centre also boasts a new conference and meeting room with the latest internet and technology available.

Leader of Oadby & Wigston Borough Council, Cllr John Boyce said: “We are pleased that by working in close partnership it has resulted in these superb new facilities being made available. The Play World and family fun centre are great for local residents of all ages to enjoy, but also add to the existing leisure offer available at Parklands and help attract people into the Borough.”

James Naylor, contract manager at Everyone Active, said: “We are delighted that the fantastic Play World and climbing centre are now available to families across the borough. The new facilities offer a vast range of opportunities for children and adults of all ages to get active together in a safe and fun environment and we hope that they will provide hours of endless fun for families for many years to come.”

The cafe at Brocks Hill has already been totally refurbished and the next stage of the £1.2 million investment will see enhancements to parking and pedestrian access.
