Mayor helps celebrate opening of new facility at Parklands Leisure Centre

Cllr Samia Haq, Mayor of Oadby and Wigston, officially opened the new facilities at Parklands Leisure Centre on Wednesday (25 April).

The Mayor was joined by 25 brownies from the 9th Oadby St Peters Brownie Pack, and together they cut the ribbon to officially open the new facilities to the local community.

Everyone Active, which manages Parklands Leisure Centre in partnership with Oadby and Wigston Borough Council, offered free soft play sessions throughout the afternoon which were enjoyed by more than eighty youngsters.

James Naylor, contract manager at Everyone Active, said: “We are delighted that The Mayor was able to help us celebrate the official opening of the new families at Parklands Leisure Centre.

“The new facilities offer a vast range of opportunities for children and adults of all ages to get active together in a safe and fun environment and we hope that they will provide hours of endless fun for families for many years to come.”

Oadby and Wigston Borough Council and Everyone Active have invested more than £1million to improve the facilities at Parklands Leisure Centre, to provide the local community with even more opportunities to take part in physical activity.

Cllr John Boyce said: “Oadby and Wigston Borough Council is pleased with the additional investment we have made in Parklands. It is our ambition to provide affordable leisure to all our residents. Enabling children to enjoy physical play is good for them now and in the future.”

Parklands Leisure Centre now boasts a Play World facility that offers an extensive range of activities for families, including, slides, foam ball shooters, fun brick house and trampolines.

In November last year, Everyone Active took over the management of Brocks Hill Visitor Centre. Following extensive refurbishment, the site now hosts a large activity area with a wooden sprung floor, which offers a fantastic space for a wide variety of activities, as well as a new conference and meeting room.
