Building work in Horsewell Lane, Wigston starts next week, which will see the creation of an exciting new modern sports and community pavilion.
A ‘Ground Breaking’ event to mark the beginning of construction work will take place on Monday 3 December, as many local residents, pavilion users and Councillors have been looking forward to this momentous occasion for a long time.
Back in September of this year, Oadby & Wigston Borough Council approved a £1m investment to create a modern purpose-built facility to replace the existing dated building. Since then the council has teamed up with Derby-based contractors G.F. Tomlinson’s who will undertake the building work and bring the much anticipated multi-use site back to life for local community use.
The new building will provide modern changing facilities for local sports clubs, a nursery for pre-school and a new meeting room and main hall which will be offered out for hire. The pavilion will be larger than the existing building and the scheme will include improved parking provision.
The start of the building work, the partnership between G.F Tomlinson’s and the positive involvement of local stakeholders was more than enough reason to mark the occasion with an event. So local stakeholders and residents have been invited and refreshments laid on to celebrate work starting on-site and also provide an opportunity to meet the contractors and senior council staff.
Joining G. F. Tomlinson, local Councillors and council staff members will be past and future pavilion occupants: staff from the Little Fishes Nursery, representatives from the Wigston Club for Young People, Wigston Forum and Wigston Tennis Club.
