At the weekend (Saturday, 1 December) crowds and families flocked to enjoy the Christmas Lights Switch-on event ‘Christmas Capers’ on South Wigston’s Blaby Road.
South Wigston now joins Oadby and Wigston town centres in boasting great festive light displays for the public and shoppers to enjoy.
It is estimated that in excess of 11,000 people turned up to watch the Borough’s three switch-on events and now the lights are glowing it really is a great time to head down for some festive retail therapy.
Adrian Thorpe, Oadby & Wigston Borough Council’s Head of Planning, Development and Regeneration said:
“Organising the three Christmas lights takes a lot of preparation, with the planning starting early on in the year.
“We would like to say a big thank you to all the retailers, our Town Centre Manager, many council staff and of course the residents for turning up to support and enjoy this year’s colourful displays.”
Now the switch ons have taken place, Adrian added: “Paying a visit to one of our towns centres this festive period supports the local economy and our local Borough traders, plus it's a great opportunity to soak up the atmosphere and see the Christmas lights at the same time.“
