Armed Forces Day Flag Raising Event

The Armed Forces Day flag was raised at the Council Offices this year on Monday 24th June 2019, together with many other flags across the country and will be flown for one week.

At the Council’s event, members of the armed forces, members of the public and council officers were greeted by the Mayor of the Borough, Councillor Lynda Eaton, before her speech at 10.00am.

This was followed by a speech from Deputy Lieutenant, Mrs Sally Bowie and then the raising of the Armed Forces Day flag by Mr and Mrs Shirley, parents of the late Warrant Officer, Dan Shirley.

The event was then brought to an end with a prayer led by Colin Chettle, Oadby Baptist Church, with all attendees being invited to the Mayor’s informal reception afterwards.
