Congestion as a Result of Re-opening of Wigston McDonald's

Prior to the re-opening of the McDonald’s in Wigston Oadby and Wigston Council liaised with both McDonald’s and County Highways to push for access to the premises to be left turn only in order to avoid traffic building on the roundabout and surrounding roads. This limited congestion to Wakes Road, Leicester Road and Aylestone Lane in an eastbound only direction.

It is possible for road users who are not visiting the McDonald’s to divert around this congestion by using Station Road, Moat Street and Bullhead Street. As a result of this intervention, Bull Head Street, Wakes Road Roundabout and importantly the link between Wigston and Oadby has been relatively unaffected by the reopening. The Council believe this has minimised the impacts that could of occurred had they not put these measures in place.

The Council will also continue to provide regular updates about the situation via their social media channels.
