Managing pavement parking – consultation

Ministers are considering an all-out ban on pavement parking across England, under proposals published by the Department for Transport.

The consultation will consider three options, including extending the London ban nationwide. Cllr Darren Rodwell, Vice Chair of the LGA’s Environment, Economy, Housing and Transport Board was interviewed on Talk Radio and Channel 5 News. He told Talk Radio: “What we need is local solutions for local problems. Councils, whether in metropolitan or rural areas, need the tools to make sure that people can walk on pavements safely. Unfortunately we’re finding lots of industrial vehicles in residential streets, which were never built to take that sort of weight and it is costing communities a lot more money to maintain these footpaths.”
