Young Citizen of the Year 2020

Each year Oadby & Wigston Borough Council seeks to recognise the achievements and positive impact young people have in our community. If you know of a young person aged 11-19 years (10-25 years with learning difficulties or disabilities) who has a local connection to our Borough, they could well be our next Young Citizen of the Year.

Hundreds of young people have stepped up to assist during Covid-19, volunteering their time to support the most vulnerable people in their community during these unusual times. Many have seen significant disruption to all aspects of their lives this year, but have done all they can for their friends, family, and neighbours.

If you know an outstanding young person deserving of recognition, a nomination for Young Citizen of the Year is a great way to show your thanks. The successful nominee will receive a personalised salver, a certificate, and a £100 cheque, as well as having their successes promoted by the Council through its social media channels and community news.

Citizen of the Year 2020

Do you know somebody who deserves to be the Borough of Oadby and Wigston’s Citizen of the Year?

A person who gives more than they take, who is always willing to help or who goes out of their way to make a positive contribution to the life of the local community or to its environment. They may face up to problems in a positive or inspirational way or just get on with things without complaining and without recognition.

This is a community award - to celebrate an individual’s unstinting and generally unrewarded work done for other people. The award was introduced in 1993 to recognise “selfless service” to residents of Oadby, Wigston or South Wigston.

Past winners have earned the Citizen of the Year title for a variety of reasons ranging from their lifetime devotion to a local organisation to their exceptional caring qualities.

We want to hear about the people in our local community who deserve to be rewarded for their goodness, determination, loyalty or qualities which you admire and perhaps don’t fit into a particular category.

How do you nominate? Please use the link below to nominate for either the Citizen's of the Year or the Young Citizen of the Year by just clicking on the relevant box.
