A series of exhibitions are being planned to help people in Oadby & Wigston make informed comments on the borough’s emerging new Local Plan.
The drop-in sessions will allow locals to speak to officers from Oadby & Wigston Borough Council’s (OWBC) Planning Policy team and give their thoughts on the contents of the emerging draft new Local Plan, before formally submitting their representation, should they wish to do so.
The borough’s current Local Plan was adopted in April 2019, but the council is very much focused on identifying the key issues and challenges that may exist within the borough area over the next Plan period, and how the new Local Plan will respond to these issues and challenges.
As part of the exercise, a series of drop-in consultation exhibitions will be taking place at the following dates and times:
- Wigston Leisure Centre, Wigston on Thursday 16 September, noon to 3pm
- The Parade, Oadby on Friday 24 September, 10am to 1pm
- Blaby Road Park Pavilion, South Wigston on Wednesday 29 September, 10am to 1pm
- Bell Street, Wigston on Friday 8 October, 1pm to 4pm
- Parklands Leisure Centre, Oadby on Tuesday 12 October, 10am to 1pm
- South Leicestershire College, South Wigston on Wednesday 13 October, 10am to 1pm.
Further details of the public consultation can be found online.
Councillor John Boyce, Leader of OWBC, said: “The Local Plan is a critically important document that guides our planning process, ensuring that future development is sustainable and right for our borough.
“For the Local Plan to be effective, we need to understand local views and the issues that matter to local people.
“Our consultation offers this opportunity but we wanted to go one step further to offer these drop-in sessions so we can engage face to face with residents. The Local Plan can feel daunting or unapproachable, but this is an opportunity to talk to us and understand the Plan better with a view to making informed comments.”
All comments must be received by midday on Friday 29 October. All representations received will be made public and published on the Council’s website.
Comments can be submitted by email to firstname.lastname@example.org or by post to; Planning Policy Team, Council Offices, Station Road, Wigston, LE18 2DR.
