Have you thought about standing in next year's local elections?

Oadby and Wigston Borough Council is offering you the opportunity to find out more about becoming a borough councillor before voters head to the polls on May 4 2023.

We are hosting the ‘Be a Councillor’ event at our Council Offices (Station Road, Wigston, LE18 2DR) from 10am - 12pm on Saturday 10 December 2022.

The event will cover an overview of the council and its services, the role of a councillor and what support is available, including allowances and training, as well as the nomination process and standing for election.

There will also be a chance to hear from current councillors about their experiences and ask questions.

Anne Court, Returning Officer for Oadby Wigston Borough Council, said: “The council provides a variety of services to residents in the borough and councillors play a really important role in helping to shape those services.”

“They are also there to help residents by listening and representing their views. Councillors can make a difference in their local areas by being a real voice for the community.”

“If you are interested in standing in Oadby, Wigston or South Wigston, I would encourage you to come along to this information session to find out more about being a Councillor and ask any questions you may have."

People interested in attending in person do not need to register to attend.

Those who wish to attend remotely, via Microsoft Teams, must register in advance by e-mailing democratic.services@oadby-wigston.gov.uk or by calling 0116 257 2775.
