Oadby & Wigston Borough Council (OWBC) leader John Boyce has announced he plans to step down ahead of the next elections in May 2023 after serving the borough as leader for 15 years.

Cllr Boyce made his announcement publicly at the borough council’s Full Council meeting on Tuesday 13 December.

He will continue in the role as Leader until the OWBC’s Full Council meeting in April, the final one before local elections in May.

Cllr Boyce said at last night’s meeting: “It’s a decision I’ve made purely for personal reasons after conversations with my family – it’s the right time for me to step down.

“I am proud of how hard we continue to work for the people of Oadby & Wigston, achieving far more than many thought possible.”

Councillor Boyce also confirmed he will not be standing for re-election as a ward councillor in South Wigston.
