A large fire took place today off Saffron Road in South Wigston.

There is a significant amount of smoke in the area and those living nearby are being strongly advised to keep their windows and doors closed.

There are several road closures in place including Saffron Road itself, Countesthorpe Road and St Thomas Road and traffic is congested. The fire is under control but crews will remain at the scene for some time and into the night of 15 June.

If travelling on the roads, please avoid this area as remain very busy. The closures are likely to be in place for some time.
