Oadby & Wigston has been awarded its thirteenth consecutive 'Gold Award' at this year's East Midlands in Bloom competition!
The East Midlands In Bloom judges toured the borough in July, visiting stops including South Wigston Community Garden, Oadby Baptist Church, Brocks Hill Country Park and the University of Leicester Botanic Garden.
The annual Oadby & Wigston entry is co-ordinated by Pride of the Borough, a group of individuals, friends of parks, civic societies, community action groups, neighbourhood groups, councillors and council officers, who all work together to encourage people to take a pride in the area. The entry is also supported by Oadby & Wigston Borough Council.
East Midlands in Bloom encourages communities to pull together to improve their surroundings through the use of trees, flowers, shrubs and landscaping, and the award also considers whether the area is litter free and the sustainability of the wider environment.
The judges' report noted that: "The hard work and dedication of all was praised by the Mayor, Councillor Rosemarie Adams. This became very apparent during the tour"
