Free town centre parking to support Christmas events in Oadby & Wigston

Families planning to enjoy Christmas and light switch on events in Oadby, Wigston and South Wigston this festive season will benefit from free parking.

Oadby & Wigston Borough councillors agreed at their Full Council meeting on Tuesday 26 September that parking should be free from 1pm in the respective towns on the date of their Christmas event.

Parking will therefore be free in:

Oadby town centre car parks from 1pm on Saturday 18 November
Wigston town centre car parks from 1pm on Saturday 25 November
South Wigston town centre car parks from 1pm on Saturday 2 December.

Cllr Jeffrey Kaufman said: “The Christmas events are really important for our town centre businesses and it’s important we enable as many people to attend as possible.

“We’re also in the midst of a Cost of Living crisis and we don’t want any families to miss out on these events due to worry about paying for parking.

“The events in all three town centres promise lots of enjoyment, and I encourage everyone to come along, have fun, and support local businesses.”

Planning for the events themselves are in the final stages with more details, timings, posters and information due to be available on the council’s website, social media and other communication channels in due course.
