A brand new play area for children has opened in time for the summer holidays at Brocks Hill Country Park.

The Green Flag Award-winning Oadby park is already popular with families but has now been improved further following investment from Oadby & Wigston Borough Council.Park ranger Eleanor Pratt with OWBC cllrs Jeffrey Kaufman and Latif Darr

The new play area, which officially opened at the end of July, features a variety of equipment for children of all ages to enjoy this summer and beyond, including a zip line, balance trail and climbing frame. There are also sensory panels and a tactile area to help support inclusivity.

Oadby & Wigston borough councillor, Jeffrey Kaufman, said: “We’re delighted to be able to open the play area on schedule and in time for the summer holidays, which is the park’s busiest period.

“The park is already a special place for families with its winding pathways, wooded sections, community orchard and den building area, in addition to the existing play equipment.

“It’s important though that we continue to invest in our parks, looking to improve the offer for our communities, including children.”

The borough council has also invested in new equipment and provision at Freer Park in Wigston, with a new table tennis table, basketball ring, mini-goal all put in place.

A teqball table has also been installed at Freer Park, which is a new sporting craze that originated in Hungary but is now sweeping the world; combining elements of football, table tennis and volleyball.
