Salon 62 in Oadby has scooped this year’s top prize in Oadby & Wigston Borough Council’s (OWBC’s) annual Christmas shop front competition.

Mayor of Oadby & Wigston, Cllr Clare Kozlowski, visited the salon to present owner Debbie Norman and team with their trophy for their Santa’s workshop-themed display.

The Community Wishes Hub and Hinckley & Rugby Building Society, winners for Wigston and South Wigston respectively, also received a visit from Cllr Kozlowski with their trophies.

Cllr Kozlowski said: “I would like to say a big ‘congratulations’ to Salon 62 for their winning window, which displayed true creativity and was clearly the product of a lot of effort by the team.

“A further congratulations to the Community Wishes Hub and Hinckley & Rugby Building Society, as well as the rest of our fantastic entrants. As always the standard was high and the panel faced some difficult decisions.

“This year saw an impressive 21 entries, and we are always grateful to all of our businesses who get involved and help us to bring some festive cheer to the borough – thank you!”

Debbie Norman, owner of Salon 62, said: “I love Christmas, and this year went for Santa's workshop as my theme. The kids love to see our window displays and it brings festive cheer and makes people smile during dark, dismal winters!”

Gez Varney, Chairman of Community Wishes, said: “Thank you to Sarah Smith for volunteering her amazing artwork, we had lots of people come in to say how good it was. When we stick together we can achieve great things!”

Marie Yates, Branch Manager at Hinckley & Rugby Building Society, said: “As a local building society we are very much here for the local community, and we are here to stay!”
