We are currently in the process of reviewing applications for all grant schemes. Once the anti-fraud checks have been completed, a payment will be authorised. Please note the payment deadline for all business grant schemes is 31 March 2022, and funding will be distributed by this date if you meet the eligibility criteria.

Additional Restrictions Grant (Local Discretionary Support Grant)

Since the start of the pandemic, the business grants team has been working incredibly hard to ensure Government funding for businesses has reached local companies as quickly and as securely as possible and that is continuing.

The Additional Restrictions Grant was announced on 31 October 2020 with a further update on the 21 December 2021. Oadby and Wigston Borough Council are re-launching the Additional Restrictions Grant Scheme to businesses who remain severely impacted by COVID-19 restrictions and those who have been severely impacted by the Omicron variant of COVID-19, we encourage all current businesses to apply.

Applications will be considered on a first come first served basis. The Additional Restrictions Grant is a discretionary fund that closed to applications on Friday 18 February 2022. Below you will find details of the scheme, eligibility criteria and eligible periods.

Pre-payment Checks

Please note: Due to heightened fraud measures, the Government has requested that we carry out pre-payment checks under the Omicron Hospitality and Leisure grant scheme and ARG scheme before any payments are made to the business. Unfortunately this will cause delays in the payment process, please be patient. Once your application has been approved and paid, you will be notified via email.

Who is eligible to apply?

  • Businesses who remain severely impacted by Coronavirus restrictions and the rise of the Omicron variant
  • Businesses who remain affected by Coronavirus restrictions
  • Businesses engaged in business activity

Who have:

  • A reduction in income due to the Covid-19 Pandemic
  • Ongoing fixed business-related costs such as utility bills, business insurance, rent, etc. to evidence.

Who isn’t eligible to apply

  • Businesses that have closed down, or are in administration, insolvent or where a striking-off notice has been made, are not eligible for funding under this scheme for the purposes of this grant
  • Businesses that have already received grant payments that equal the maximum levels of State aid permitted under the de Minimis and the Covid-19 Temporary State Aid Framework.
  • Businesses that have not lost income as a result of the Covid-19 Omicron variant


Grant amount will be determined based on scoring against the following criteria:

  • Number of jobs supported by the business
  • Level of ongoing fixed business related costs
  • Level of financial loss due to Covid-19 Omicron variant
  • If the business is locally owned and independent
  • The ability of the business to trade online

The amount awarded will depend on the outcome of the assessment.

Eligible period

The application process was open from Monday 17 January 2022 to 5.00pm on Friday 18 February 2022.

It is your responsibility to tell us if your circumstances change at any point. Any grant amount paid where your business is found not to be eligible will require the amount to be paid back to the Council

Appeals for all Covid-19 business grants

There is no right to appeal, and the decision of the Council is final. As set out in the Business Grant Fund Policy, the Council’s interpretation of the guidance is at its own discretion and it will be the final arbiter of the definitions contained within this policy.
