Oadby and Wigston Borough Council issue combined Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Vehicle Driver Licences allowing licensed drivers to drive either a Hackney Carriage or Private Hire Vehicle. Licences last for three years after which time the licence holder must renew or cease to act as a licensed driver.
The Council will not grant a licence unless they are satisfied that an applicant is a fit and proper person. The application process is designed to enable the Council to make that decision and these procedures are explained in the Council’s Policy.
Applicants are required to pass a driving assessment conducted by the Blue Lamp Trust and provide a medical certificate signed by their GP confirming the applicants fitness to drive. Additionally the applicant will have their criminal record checked, their driving licence record checked and must have passed the Council competency test which is usually held on the first Wednesday of each month at 0900hrs at the Council Offices, Station Road, Wigston. Applicants are required to be at the Council offices for 0830hrs for registration. Child sexual exploitation training will be held in the afternoon following a competency test.
An application pack can be obtained from the Customer Service Centre which is located on Bell Street, Wigston (0116 2888961)
