Parking permits

A parking permit scheme is available in council car parks which will make parking cheaper for regular users.

Head to the MiPermit website to purchase your virtual permit now.

If you are a resident of the Borough you will need your council tax billing reference number to hand when you apply, as well as a copy of your V5 vehicle registration document or other paperwork showing the vehicle registered to an address in the Borough.

Parking charges begin on 4 January, 2022. Virtual permits can be purchased ahead of that date to start on 4 January 2022.

FAQS

Can I buy my permit now?

Yes - you can buy the permit now on the MiPermit website. The start date will default to 4 January, 2022 and your six-month or 12-month permit will begin from that date.

Will I receive a permit in the post? Do I need to display a permit in my car window?

No – the permits are digital and your car numberplate will automatically be associated with the permit you’ve purchased. You will not receive a physical permit in the post.

What are the advantages of a permit?

  • No cash required
  • Allows for quick drop-in visits (like buying milk / bread etc)
  • Removing the need to pay and display
  • Allows shoppers to make unlimited visits
  • Costs reduce the more the permit is used.

Can I change the car registration that is connected to my permit?

Yes, you can make unlimited changes to the car you have registered through the MiPermit website. You can only have one car registered at any one time. It is the owner’s responsibility to ensure the correct number plate is active on the MiPermit website when parking your vehicle.

Does a single permit cover more than one vehicle?

A single digital permit only covers one vehicle being parked at any one time.

You can add other vehicles to the same permit but only one of these vehicles can be parked in a car park at any one time. It is your responsibility to ensure that the vehicle registration on your account is updated to match the vehicle at the time of parking, otherwise a Penalty Charge Notice may be issued. If you wish to park two or more vehicles in the car parks at the same time, you will need to purchase a permit for each vehicle.

If I purchase a virtual permit what do I need to display in my vehicle?

You do not need to display any proof of purchase in your vehicle. Once a permit is issued the vehicle registration number is automatically logged with the Enforcement Officers.

How are ‘town centre’ and ‘countryside and leisure’ car parks defined?

A ‘town centre parking permit’ will allow parking in ANY of the following locations:

Oadby:

East Street Car Park, Sandhurst Street Car Park, Ellis Park Car Park.

Wigston:

  • Brocks Hill Country Park Car Park
  • Wigston Pool and Gym Car Park.

An ‘All Car Parks’ permit will allow parking in ANY of the above car parks – both town centre and countryside and leisure locations.

How do I amend/update/renew/raise an issue about my permit?

This should all be done through the MiPermit website

I’ve changed my mind and I no longer want a permit – can I get refund on the remaining months?

Yes, as long as there is at least three months left on your permit. You will be refunded for full months remaining only and there is an admin charge. You will need to do this through the MiPermit website.

Will my parking permit automatically renew after one year?

You will be given the choice during the registration process of whether you want to renew automatically. If you choose not to automatically renew, you will receive reminders from MiPermit when your permit nears its expiry.

What if I don’t want to buy a permit?

The casual use pay and display (or pay by phone) charges will apply - more information is available on our car parking page

Is there any discount available for OAPs or benefits recipients?

No – charges are already as low as possible for all users.

If I already pay for a Leicestershire County Council on-street residents parking permit will I have to pay again to use Oadby and Wigston's car parks?

Permits issued by Leicestershire County Council are for on-street parking only and are not interchangeable for off-street car parks therefore you will need to purchase an off-street parking permit if you wish to park in Oadby and Wigston council car parks.

Do motorcycles have to pay for parking?

No, motorcycles are exempt from charges and may park in any of our car parks free of charge.
