Workplace transport means any vehicle that is used in a work setting. It does not include transport on the public highway, air, rail or water transport as these are covered by other rules and regulations.
Workplace transport is the second biggest cause of accidents in the workplace and causes about 70 deaths each year. Most of these are preventable.
There are four main types of accident that employers and the self employed need to prevent. They are:-
- moving vehicles hitting or running over people,
- people falling off workplace vehicles,
- workplace vehicles overturning and
- objects falling off workplace vehicles.
