Oadby & Wigston Borough Council receive a number of Freedom of Information (FOI) requests of a similar nature, for information which relates to business rates accounts (non-domestic properties).

To address these requests the council will regularly publish an excel spreadsheet covering the most commonly requested information.

The dataset below includes property references, business address, the ratepayer’s name, the current rateable value and whether the property is subject to any rate reliefs.

The ratepayers name will only be shown for companies and other organisations. If the ratepayer is an individual, those fields will be blank, in accordance with Data Protection legislation.

It is the intention of the council to refund any overpayment of business rates timely. There are occasions where the Council is unable to refund on overpayment which is then written back onto the account.

We do not publish business rate credit information or details of empty properties in accordance with exemption 31(1)(a) of the Freedom of Information Act, as the release of this information can, and have been attempted to be, used to perpetrate fraud or for other criminal purposes. The public interest in this case is to withhold this information in order to prevent the attempted criminal actions.

You do not have to apply or ask for permission to use a published dataset; however you are required to agree to the terms of the Open Government Licence for public sector information. Otherwise you are free to use the data as you wish provided it is attributed to us.
