Wheeled bins for household waste have now been delivered to all households in the borough.
The distribution of wheeled bins for household waste commenced in May and residents have been able to use their new bins for household waste since June 2019. These should be presented on your curtilage (kerbside), as demonstrated in the images below, by 7 am on your collection day. Bins should be removed from the kerbside as soon as possible after collection but no later than 10 pm on the day of collection.
To ensure that your recycling and rubbish is collected, please place bins out as shown in the picture below. If your road is particularly narrow, please put your bin out as close to your boundary as possible.
Please ensure that your bin lids are closed and do not have rubbish overflowing and the bin lid open as illustrated below.
Bin Entitlement and Assessment Process
Each household is entitled to 1 x 140 litre wheeled bin. For those residents who believe that they required a larger bin, the Council has gone through an extensive assessment process of over 260 residents since the beginning of May, based on historical knowledge of the property and visiting the property to complete the assessment. A total of 39 residents assessments have been approved for larger bins.
From the assessments, larger bins have been provided based on one or more of the following criteria:-
- The overall number of occupants in your house
- Young babies/children requiring nappies
- Disabled people for medical purposes
Assessments and any appeals will be concluded at the end of July 2019. Any further appeals after this date will only be granted if the circumstances have changed and proof can be demonstrated.
Disabled and elderly residents
Where a resident has a disability or frailty, we may be able to assist with putting out and returning their bin or to collect their black bags. This applies where the resident is not able to put out their refuse and cannot make other arrangements. You can make an online request by completing the online form using the link below.
Oadby & Wigston Borough Council is proud to be the only council in Leicestershire which has maintained a weekly refuse and recycling collection for its residents.
You will now have been notified that from June 2019 some collection days may have changed. To find out the day of your collections please use the 'My Location' area of this page. Your recycling and household waste will still be collected weekly on the same day.
