Cookies

When we provide services we want to make them easy, useful and reliable. When we deliver these services and information through our web site this sometimes involves placing small amounts of information on your device, for example, your computer or mobile phone. These include small files known as cookies. They cannot be used to identify you personally.

These pieces of information are used to improve services for you through, for example:

  • Enabling a service to recognise your device so you do not have to give the same information multiple times during one task.
  • Measuring how many people are using services so we can make sure that there is enough capacity to make them work efficiently, and look at ways we can make them easier to use.

Most web browsers allow some control of most cookies through the browser settings. To find out more about cookies, including how to see what cookies have been set and how to manage and delete them, visit www.aboutcookies.org.

To opt out of being tracked by Google Analytics across all web sites visit tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Session cookies

A session cookie is a reference to you for the duration of your visit on the site. It enables us to secure our forms by checking that no one else is pretending to be you. The cookie only lasts as long as your visit.

Remember my details

When you select 'Use a cookie to remember this' we set a cookie to remember who you are. This might be, for example, when entering your postcode to search My Borough or, if you are a site administrator, logging in to the site. This cookie will last for 1 year from when it is first set. After this time or if you delete the cookie yourself, you will need to re-enter your details on your next visit.

YouTube cookies

We embed videos from our official YouTube channel using YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode. This mode may set cookies on your computer once you click on the YouTube video player but YouTube will not store personally-identifiable cookie information for playbacks of embedded videos using the privacy-enhanced mode.

Online surveys of web site usage

The cookie is used by our survey tool to count the total number of unique visitors who are accessing the web site over a particular period of time and to identify web visitors who have already been offered the survey so that they are not prompted to participate a second time within any three month period.
