Gambling Act 2005

The Licensing section deals with applications under the Gambling Act 2005, which came into full effect on 1st September 2007. The Act transferred responsibility for the licensing of gambling premises from Licensing Justices to Local Authorities.

Responsibility for licensing betting and gaming facilities is split between Local Authorities and the Gambling Commission. The Gambling Commission issues Operating Licences and Personal Licences under the 2005 Act.

As the Local Licensing Authority for Oadby and Wigston we issue Premises Licences for the following activities:

  • Bingo
  • Betting
  • Adult Gaming Centres
  • Family Entertainment Centres
  • Casinos

We are also responsible for issuing the following permits and registrations:

  • Licensed Premises Gaming Machines Permit
  • Club Gaming Permit
  • Club Machine Permit
  • Prize Gaming Permit
  • Family Entertainment Centre Gaming Machine Permit (unlicensed)
  • Small Society Lottery Registration

Gambling Act 2005 Statement of Licensing Policy review

The policy has been approved by the Council at its meeting on 8 December 2013. A public notice has been placed in the Leicester Mercury to advertise the publishing of the policy which come into force on 31 January 2016.
