Adopted Statement of Community Involvement

The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) sets out how the public will be involved in the plan making process, and also how the public can be involved in the determination of planning applications.

The Council approved the Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) 2014 on Tuesday 23rd September 2014 following a period of public consultation between Wednesday 2nd July and Wednesday 13th August 2014.

The 2014 SCI can be downloaded below, along with a summary of comments received during the public consultation.

The new SCI replaces the 2006 Statement of Community Involvement. It was important to update the SCI due to changes in planning regulations and legislation since that date.

All Local Development Plan Documents prepared and planning applications determined by the Council have to comply with the consultation arrangements set out in this document.

The Statement of Community Involvement was first produced and adopted in 2006 (see bottom of page). Since then the Government has introduced substantial changes to the planning system. This updated Statement of Community Involvement seeks to take account of these changes and will replace the former document.

What is a Statement of Community Involvement?

We are preparing new local guidelines to outline how we intend to plan for new homes, jobs and other development in the borough up to 2026 and beyond. As planning affects all of us, we want to ensure that everyone is able to shape the future of the borough through active and meaningful involvement. The Statement of Community Involvement sets out the standards to be achieved in the preparation, alteration and continuing review of all Local Development Documents and planning applications. The Statement of Community Involvement must meet minimum consultation requirements set out in the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 and related guidance, it must also have regard to our Corporate Plan and Community Plan.

The Council's Statement of Community Involvement

The Statement of Community Involvement was adopted on Wednesday, 29th March 2006. All Local Development Documents prepared will need to follow the procedures for consultation and engagement set out in this document.
